The appearcne of the nose affects the perception of the appearance of the remainder of the face. For example a large hump or dorsal convexity can make the eyes appear deeper set and/or closer together. Neither of these characteristics are considered attractive. However, the appearance of deeper set eyes and closer together eyes usually merely an illusion created by the presence of a nose that projects too far off the face. These causes the observer’s eye to converge at a point farther from the main plane of the face and thus create the illusion of greater depth to the eyes and a narrower separation of the eyes. The good news is that because these are optical illusions they change for the better with the corrections of the nose that occur with rhinoplasty. By reducing the hump the point of convergence of the two lines of vision in the observed changes and thus the depth of the eyes and wideness of the separation between the two is generally normalized. Thus rhinoplasty improve can improve the appearance of not just the nose but the entire face by uncovering the other attractive features that distorted by the appearance of an unattractive nose. I frequently discuss this with patients that i consult with in Austin while discussing their desire for rhinopalsty.
